The holidays are a time to celebrate, connect, and create memories with your team. But what does it take to take a corporate holiday party from standard to unforgettable? From our experience planning events at MUELLER SCOTT, the secret lies in the details… and a little magic. Celebrating with your team matters more than you think— 80% of employees say company holiday events make them feel more valued. Here are five ways to elevate your holiday celebrations and leave a lasting impression.

1. Start with a Cohesive Theme

Every unforgettable holiday event begins with a strong theme. Immersive event design makes a difference: 64% of attendees say they prefer events that feel visually and creatively engaging. As corporate event planners, we know that a thoughtful theme ties together decor, entertainment, food, and the overall vibe, transforming a standard party into an experience guests will remember.

Whether it’s a glamorous winter wonderland, a rooftop soiree with skyline views, or a creative twist on the season, aligning every detail with your theme ensures the event feels intentional, elevated, and full of energy.

2. Create Memorable Experiences

Some of the most unforgettable holiday moments are those that surprise and delight. One of our favorite events was the very first celebration hosted on the brand-new Moody Center outdoor terrace. The setting was truly unbeatable. Guests enjoyed sweeping views of the downtown Austin skyline, the Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, and the Mike A. Myers Track and Field Stadium. Every twinkle light and reflection on the skyline added to the magic, creating the perfect backdrop for an evening of holiday cheer.

Entertainment is another secret ingredient. At a client’s family-focused holiday party, the guest list had grown to include more children each year, so we knew we needed something special just for them. Enter the holiday Elf. The moment the Elf hit the dance floor, the kids went wild, following along in a spontaneous dance parade through the ballroom, which culminated in an epic dance-off with the DJ. The laughter of the children, the cheers of the parents, and the buzzing energy in the room made the event truly unforgettable for everyone.

3. Focus on Inclusivity

The heart of any great celebration is making everyone feel seen and valued. Instead of focusing solely on a single holiday, we shift the lens to the season,  celebrating gratitude, connection, and fun.

Offer global treats, cozy nooks for conversation, or creative themes that go beyond tradition. Employees notice: 72% say feeling connected to their company culture is very important. The result? Everyone leaves feeling like they belong and ready to celebrate!

4. Extend the Holiday Spirit Beyond the Party

A single event doesn’t have to be the end of your holiday celebration. Keep the spirit alive through thoughtful gifting, team-building activities, and year-round cultural touchpoints that show employees they’re appreciated.

Whether it’s a curated gift, a charitable initiative, or shared experiences, these moments of recognition and connection help your team carry the holiday joy into the new year.

5. Invest in Elements that Create Connection, Even on a Budget

You don’t need a massive budget to make an impact. Focus on the elements that spark connection, energy, and memorable moments:

  • Food: Go local! Partnering with a food truck or small caterer brings character and conversation to the event.

  • Entertainment: Music and interactive activities set the mood. A great DJ or live act transforms the energy of the room, encouraging guests to relax, mingle, and dance!
